Sylvia Teng has taught over 100 young pianists over the past decade, from toddlers to teenagers, college students to adults. Born and raised in Taiwan, Sylvia won several regional piano competitions in her home country before coming to the United States to study music in Illinois.
In Illinois, Sylvia studied piano with Dr. Michael Campbell at Western Illinois University and with Donald Walker at Northern Illinois University, where she performed extensively in recitals and as a university accompanist. During this time, Sylvia taught piano to children in several private and community schools, organizing and giving successful student recitals. At NIU she taught piano to music minors and class piano to undergraduate students.
Sylvia moved to Oregon with her husband, Forest Grove School District Orchestra Director, Jonathan Cohen, and daughter Phacelia in 2005. She lives with her family, now including her littlest Ravine, in Forest Grove.
Sylvia is dedicated to enriching as many children as possible with the ability to create music and to supporting the people of Forest Grove with community recitals. You are encouraged to call Sylvia anytime to introduce yourself and learn more about Piano Studio S.
